Wild Elephant Attacks American Tourist at Chinese Nature Reserve

BEIJING —  A wild elephant in southern China attacked an American tourist by tossing him with its trunk, causing the man to suffer from fractured ribs and stomach injuries, an official said Monday.

I wonder if the State Department has issued an alert.  Not quite sure why someone would want to get close enough to a wild elephant that it can grab you with its trunk.  Unless they’re cross-breeding the elephants with squirrels over there in China, I’m not quite sure how one could sneak up on you either.  It’s either one very wily elephant, or one very stupid tourist.

I think Bike Bubba has traveled to China.  Have you ever been to this reserve?

Never China. Malaysia, Singapore, and Japan, yes, but not China. However, I did visit the zoo a lot (Brookfield Zoo near Chicago) as a kid, and it actually turns out that elephants walk pretty quietly. I can see this happening, especially if the tourist was jet lagged or drunk.
