The Wild Bunch ride again

No, not Marlin Brando and his motorcycle gang.  I’m talking about the marriage group that MM and I are part of.  We have 4 couples who have been getting together for about 5 years.  We all had been attending the same church, and when the marriage groups were formed, the first book we were suppose to go through and study was Wild at Heart.  Well, after one year we had made it through 2 chapters; but we still call ourselves the Wild Bunch.  They are some of the dearest friends we have, and we try to get together at least once a month; but, due to sickness and other circumstances, we hadn’t gotten together for the last two months.

We finally got together again tonight, and one of the main topics of conversation was about a combination ‘missions/seeing a good friend of theirs’ trip that one of the couples had made to India in March.  They related their whole experience from the travel, their dealings at airports in Dhaka (Bangladesh) and Calcutta, their stays in hotels, the food, the transportation, etc, etc.  Which brings me to the point of the post:

If you ever hear me say that I’d like to plan a trip to India—you have permission to immediately have me locked up and get my head examined.  There have certainly been a number of bright and wonderful people who felt called to missions in India; but, thankfully, I can say that I was on the other line or not home if God ever made that call to me.  After listening to them, I can say that when I die, not having ever visited that part of the world will not be something I’ll have regretted whatsoever.  I have my own mission field in Wright County MN thank you, and I’ll leave those kind of trips to people whom God has prepared spiritually and mentally.  God bless the U.S. of A.

My cousin, an Anesthesiologist, took a “vacation” in India recently and it was a nightmare – people pooping out in the open everywhere, animals all over the place – chaos! He would agree with you!
